LC Agency Disciplinary Procedures for Linguists and Freelancers
Interpreting and Translation Linguists Collective Agency (LC Agency) is committed to maintaining high professional standards among its linguists. This document outlines the disciplinary procedures for interpreters and translators (linguists) working with LC Agency.
Disciplinary Procedures
Opportunity to Correct
1. Viewing Complaints:
- Linguists will be given the opportunity to view the complaint unless the customer has requested confidentiality.
- Linguists must respond to the complaint, and their response will be shared with the customer.
2. Serious Matters:
- For serious matters, an interview with the linguist may be conducted on a voluntary basis. Records and evidence will be documented.
- Linguists will have the opportunity to view and respond to the report and any evidence.
3. Review and Investigation:
- Details of the complaint, the linguist’s responses, and relevant evidence will be reviewed.
- Patterns of behaviour will be examined, not just isolated incidents.
- For criminal matters, the customer will be advised to report to the police directly, and LC Agency may also report to the police if necessary
- If required, and the linguist is registered with NRPSI, a report will be made to the NRPSI
Penalties for Violations
4. Providing False Information:
- Linguists providing false information will be removed from LC Agency’s register.
5. Serious Matters:
- Linguists will be removed from the system for serious violations.
6. Warnings and Apologies:
- Linguists accepting fault and apologising may receive a warning.
- Linguists will be given three opportunities to correct punctuality issues.
7. Discretion for Errors:
- Discretion may be given for unintended errors in accepting or invoicing assignments up to three times per calendar year.
8. Repeated Violations:
- Linguists who repeatedly violate standards or exhibit patterns of misconduct will face progressive disciplinary actions, up to and including removal from the system.
Assignment Cancellations and Penalties
9. Returning Assignments:
- Assignments can be returned up to 48 hours before the start time without penalty due to illness or personal emergency.
- Up to six assignments (with 48 hours notice) can be returned per calendar year without penalty.
- Linguists are expected to deliver high-quality work punctually and in accordance with the LC Code of Conduct.
Policy Review and Amendment
LC reserves the right to review and amend this policy with acceptable notice.
